Richard Walker, Principal, ShireConsults, has been involved in the management of technology transfer from Universities to the wider community from 1988 to July 2003. For the past 9 years he has been General Manager/Executive Director of Macquarie Research Ltd, Macquarie University’s commercial arm. He has been a Director of MRL, APAF Ltd, AMN Ltd and biotech start-up TGR BioSciences Pty Ltd. He has extensive experience in bidding for and managing complex research and consultancy projects and the commercialisation of research outputs. In particular he has managed two large technology diffusion projects, one involved in assisting SMEs to export and the other, the establishment of the Australian Microelectronics Network. He has been a member for the Sutherland Shire Economic Development Committee and involved in the establishment of a Business Incubator, a Shire Business Centre and currently is facilitating the formation of a marine industry cluster.
